About

The first time I remember having a camera in my hands was a Kodak Instamatic 110 camera that I received as a Christmas present when I was eight. I still have pictures from that camera in an album, and looking at them, I am drawn to the power of the photographic image’s ability to capture not only a moment, but a feeling, an emotion, or an idea. More than that, about how an image can become a link back to a moment; a gateway back in time. When we look at an image a year from now, or five, or twenty-five, it can take us back to the moment the image was made, and bring with it the same emotions that we experienced back then.

While photography includes an enormous array of specialties, each with its own challenges and rewards, I have always loved photographing people. It all goes back to that first camera, taking pictures of my family and friends. I still find that taking pictures of the people around me is one of my favorite things to do.

I am fascinated by both the technical and artistic aspects of photography, and how both come together to form a compelling image. I am as much a student of photography as I am a practitioner, and I enjoy sharing what I have learned with others. This website allows me to share my work as a photographer, and to share my thoughts, techniques, and inspirations related to photography and art, in general.
